StoneBridge Elementary Ground Breaking

County and school officials broke ground on Monday commemorating the construction of the new StoneBridge Elementary in Brandon.

The school, which is slated to open in August 2009, is located in the Stonebridge subdivision on Mississippi 18 in Brandon.

It will draw students from Brandon Elementary and Rouse Elementary, which district officials have said are severely overcrowded.

Stonebridge Elementary is located on more than 16 acres and will contain about 35 standard classrooms, a P.E. room, a language facility, and other specialized rooms, assistant superintendent of support services Hugh Carr said.

The school is one of two currently under construction. The district is also constructing Highland Bluff Elementary School in the Flowood area.
